Mr. Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers state, has emerged the best Governor in Nigeria in a national survey conducted by a Lagos- based national magazine, The Top10.
The leading Nigerian monthly magazine known for celebrating excellence in various fields of endeavour had, sometime last month, initiated a contest titled “The Top10 Magazine Best Governor survey” to pick the best Governor in Nigeria. The exercise which was conducted through an online survey on The Top10 Magazine website www.thetop10magazine.com.ng, provided an opportunity for members of the public to vote for their most preferred state Governor among the set of 2015-2023 Governors who are due to end their two- term tenure on May 29, 2023. Governor Wike emerged as the best Governor in Nigeria with 31.3% of total votes cast in the survey. Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa-Ibom state came second with 25% votes in the contest, while Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state came third with 15.6% votes. Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state came fourth with 9.4% votes and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state came fifth with 6.3% votes. The remaining 12.4% of the votes is shared among the remaining 12 Governors in the group with different scores. The voting which started on April 11, 2023 ended May 15, 2023.
According to a statement by the Publisher of The Top10 Magazine, Mr. Tony Iji, “the objective of the initiative is to celebrate the best Governor in Nigeria as a way of promoting excellence in governance in Nigeria. He said the idea resonates with the philosophy behind the establishment of The Top10 Magazine, which is to celebrate people who represent excellence in various endeavours.
The statement further said that the winner would be honoured with the award of the Best Governor in Nigeria (2015-2023) and grace the cover of the special edition of The Top10 Magazine to be published and dedicated to capturing his eight years stewardship and track record of achievements.
He said that the climax of the exercise would be the official award presentation ceremony where the winner would be honoured and presented with the award at a high-level event to be graced by dignitaries from both the private and the public sectors.
