Princess Kelechi Oghene had the vision of becoming an entrepreneur with the target of raising millions of other entrepreneurs both in Nigeria and in the diaspora. Fifteen years down the line, she has become an internationally celebrated entrepreneur churning out hundreds of fashion designers in Nigeria and many other African countries.
Today, she is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of a group of companies that include: ‘GMYT Fashion Academy, Gahawards, GMYT Hostel Apartments and GMYT Foundation.
The optimistic philosophy that she has adopted has propelled her towards achieving her goals and, being a big reader with a strong appetite for learning, these prompted her to attend several workshops and training,
To satisfy her appetite for knowledge, she has bagged several degrees and qualifications from notable institutions. She is an alumnus of Lagos State University, Lagos Business School, London School of Fashion, Harvard Business School, just to mention a few. These and more have made her more structured and exceptional in her business dealings.
Princess Oghene has also bagged over 40 awards some of which are: Ecowas Designer of The Year, Nigerian Entrepreneurs Award for Most Enterprise Personality of The Year, Symbol of Hope Awards for African Woman of Impact. Nigerian British Award for Supporting the Fashion Industry, amongst others.
A member of the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FADAN), Princess Oghene, a philanthropist, has in the last few years, used her several birthed platforms to train and graduate over a thousand women and youths that are now skilled in the fashion industry.
She has provided over 500 scholarships worth N200 million and empowered over N500 women and youths with Industrial/electric Sewing Machine each through GMYT Foundation. She has donated about N5 million to support young business initiatives through GMYT Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) support sheme.
In addition, Princess Oghene has provided free accommodations for students of GMYT Fashion Academy in partnership with GMYT Hostel Apartment and, in the last nine years organized and awarded over 200 individuals/organizations that are contributing positively to societal growth. The annual event also features Gahawards Magazine and exclusive runway design via Gahawards Limited.
It is in recognition of these laudable initiatives of grooming and empowering a new generation of entrepreneurs through the GMYT Fashion Academy that Princess Oghene has been honoured with the award of Champion of Entrepreneurship Development of the Year by the Top 10 magazine.
