Kwairanga Hails NGX Team as Dangote Refinery IPO Closes, Reaches Investors in 120 Countries

NGX Group Chairman Celebrates Historic People’s IPO, Commends Staff for Six Weeks of Dedication

Alhaji (Dr) Umaru Kwairanga, Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX Group), has commended the management and staff of the NGX Group and its subsidiaries for their dedication, resilience and commitment in delivering the Dangote Refinery Initial Public Offering (IPO), which successfully closed on October 27, 2026, after an extraordinary six-week journey.

Kwairanga described the offering as a historic milestone for Nigeria and Africa, noting that the initiative reached investors across 120 countries worldwide, including all 54 African countries. He hailed the achievement as a major step towards expanding public participation in wealth creation, broadening African ownership and deepening Nigeria’s capital market.

In a message to the NGX ground team on the final day of the offer, Kwairanga urged staff to sustain their efforts until the last minute to ensure that every interested investor was captured on the exchange’s digital platform.

“Every single application matters,” he emphasised, underscoring the importance of each investor in advancing financial inclusion and expanding opportunities for participation in wealth creation.

The NGX Group chairman encouraged the team to turn the final day into a celebration of success by energising their efforts, reaching more prospective investors and ensuring a strong finish to what he described as a defining moment in the history of the Nigerian capital market.

According to him, the Dangote Refinery IPO represented more than the conclusion of a share offer. It was an opportunity to make history with what he described as Africa’s biggest IPO and to establish a new benchmark for the “People’s IPO”.

Kwairanga’s message highlighted the broader significance of the offering, particularly its potential to bring more Africans into the investment market and strengthen public participation in the ownership of major businesses.

Following the successful closure of the offer on October 27, the NGX Group chairman issued a further message congratulating the entire team on the accomplishment. He acknowledged the contribution of the Group’s Board of Directors, the boards of its subsidiaries, management and staff, with particular appreciation for Group Chief Executive Officer, Temi Popoola.

He praised their dedication, immense support, passion, resilience and commitment throughout the six-week process, which began on September 14, 2026.

“Be proud of what we have achieved together,” Kwairanga told the team, describing the achievement as a landmark moment for Nigeria and Africa that would inspire generations.

He also expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed to the exercise, noting that their collective efforts had helped deliver an offering with significance beyond the transaction itself.

The successful conclusion of the Dangote Refinery IPO marks a notable moment for NGX Group and the wider Nigerian capital market, particularly in its emphasis on expanding investor participation across national and continental boundaries.

For Kwairanga, the achievement is a testament to teamwork, determination and a shared commitment to making Nigeria and Africa proud. His messages to the ground team before and after the offer’s closure underscored the importance of every investor, every application and every effort in advancing the vision of a more inclusive capital market.

The NGX Group chairman’s commendation also reinforces the importance of collective institutional commitment in executing major capital-market initiatives and creating opportunities for broader participation in wealth creation.

As the Dangote Refinery IPO journey draws to a close, Kwairanga has called on the NGX team to take pride in their contribution to what he described as a historic chapter in Nigeria’s financial market development.
