Senator (Dr.) George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has been named as The Top10 Magazine Man of the Year 2024.
He emerged from among many other distinguished personalities in a multi-stage rigorous selection and screening process.
In a letter conveying Senator Akume’s selection as the Man of the Year 2024, the Board of Editors of the Magazine said it was based on the stability which he has brought to the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration through the deep understanding and deft execution of his role as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) which is the Clearing House of the Presidency.
The Board said: “This has been manifested in the unprecedented harmony which you have enabled between the three arms of government thereby deepening democracy, rule of law and accelerating development; and prompt filling of vacancies in government that has enhanced uninterrupted service delivery across board. Also considered in Senator Akume’s selection is his effective crisis management of potentially destabilizing workers’/citizens’ disaffection with some of the government’s economic policies; his statesmanly approach to the management of political crises; among others.
“We consider all these outstanding accomplishments as a clear demonstration of your ranking as a leader of excellence worthy of commendation, hence the decision of our management to accord you this special recognition as The Top10 Magazine Man of the Year 2024.”
The Top10 Magazine is a monthly publication established in 2016 as a platform to celebrate excellence and people of excellence from all human endeavours.
The Top10 Man of the Year Award was also instituted the same year as an annual award by the magazine to recognize and honour one outstanding personality in a given year that has recorded landmark accomplishments in the Nigerian society.
This year’s recipient, Senator George Akume, is an accomplished technocrat who had a distinguished career in the civil service, retiring as a permanent secretary before veering into politics. He served two terms as the elected governor of Benue State and was a three-term senator before his appointment as a minister in the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. His appointment as the SGF was one of the first appointments made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu upon his inauguration in May 2023. Since his appointment, he has initiated a lot of innovations, leading to the unprecedented achievements recorded by the office of the secretary to the government of the federation under his leadership.
Mr. Tony Iji, Publisher/Editor-In-Chief of The Top10 Magazine, has said that ahead of the official presentation of the award to Senator Akume, at the Magazine’s excellence awards 2024, the magazine will put together a special award edition to celebrate him. The edition will chronicle in detail all his milestone accomplishments as the SGF as well as his career and personal antecedents.
The final stage of the celebration will be the official Man of the Year investiture ceremony where the award will be presented to Senator Akume at The Top10 Magazine Excellence Awards night slated for later in the year, which will be graced by crème de la crème of the society. The Top10 Magazine represented by its publisher/Editor-in-chief, Tony Iji, met recently with the representatives of the SGF, Senator Akume in Abuja to firm up discussions on the award.
