The Top10 magazine, Nigeria’s foremost publication has released the list of leading patriotic Nigerians in the forefront of advancing the cause of peace and peaceful co-existence in the country titled “Nigeria’s Top 10 Peace Ambassadors”
In the latest edition of the magazine with focus on agents of peace in Nigeria, the magazine has listed the top 10 patriots leading the pack of individuals that have distinguished themselves as true heroes of peace by their antecedents in advancing the cause of peace and peaceful co-existence in the country.
Topping the list of these patriotic Nigerians are, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (Rtd), founder and promoter of Yakubu Gowon Centre for National Unity and International Cooperation (YGC) which has been in the forefront of peace promotion in Nigeria; Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd), founder and promoter of Abubakar Abdulsalami Institute for Peace and Sustainable Development Studies and co-convener of National Peace Committee; Goodluck Jonathan, founder and promoter of Goodluck Jonathan Foundation; Bishop Matthew Kukah, founder and promoter of The Kukah Centre and co-convener of National Peace Committee; Fatima Akilu, founder and promoter of NEEM Foundation, a major peace promoter in the country. Others are; Cardinal John Onaiyekan, founder and promoter of Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace; Zannah Mustapha, founder and promoter of Future Prowress Islamic foundation; Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and a key peace promoter in the country; Alh. Abdullahi Abubakar, an Imam who saved about 300 Christians during Jos crises and Aisha Wakil, an activist and a negotiator with Boko Haram insurgents.
In a release by the The Top10 Magazine, signed by its publisher, Mr. Tony Iji, it stated that, “In line with our tradition of celebrating 10 leading lights in every sector of the society, this edition of the magazine focuses on the top 10 Nigerian patriots who have distinguished themselves with proven track record and antecedents of sacrifice and commitment to promotion of peace and peaceful co-existence in Nigeria. He said, “as usual, the selection went through rigorous and painstaking selection process taken into cognizance the contributions these individuals have made towards advancing the cause of peace and peaceful co-existence in Nigeria before the final emergence of the top 10 who made the list.
Mr. Iji stated that in the face of the present escalating conflict situation tearing the Nigerian society apart, the idea behind this edition of the magazine is to celebrate those whose actions have helped to provide the needed shooting balm to keep the country united against all odds. He said that the idea is to use the platform to encourage other Nigerians to emulate this patriotic Nigerians by embracing the tenets of peace and peaceful co-existence in the country built on patience, tolerance, love, patriotism, etc. “From all fronts, Nigeria is under siege, facing different types of conflict situations, ranging from religious crisis, communal crises, boundary issues, boko haram menace, herdsmen vs farmers clashes, Biafra agitation, militancy in Niger Delta, labour union agitations, hate speech, etc.
But in the face of all this, few Nigerians have stood out as true heroes by making huge sacrifice and committing time, energy and resources in advancing the cause of peace in Nigeria. These are the champions this edition is out to celebrate, he stated.
